Patricia Richardson says the rumors that a Home Improvement meeting is taking place are not true. Blond-haired woman wearing a black blazer. It's been almost three years since Tim Allen's long-running comedy, Last Man Standing, was canceled. However, the veteran actor has managed to keep busy ever since, and his most recent work was a streaming production.
Now, it seems that those who have been eager to see the television icon again on the small screen won't have to wait too long. Allen will reportedly return to ABC, which hosted both LMS and Home Improvement, for a new multi-camera comedy. During an appearance on the podcast Back to the Best on Thursday, Patricia Richardson, who played family matriarch Jill Taylor alongside Tim Allen in the long-running comedy, rejected the idea of restarting the series. “I would hear on Twitter or whatever, that I would come out publicly and say things that everyone agreed to do a Home Improvement meeting,” said Richardson, who earned four Emmy nominations and two Golden Globe nominations for comedy. Home Improvement followed Tim Taylor de Allen, host of the home improvement show Tool Time, and to life with his wife Jill and their three children Brad (Bryan), Randy (Thomas) and Mark (Smith).
So when fans learned that the Home Improvement and Last Man Standing star would return to his ABC comedy home for a new pilot after nearly three years of absence, they were undeniably thrilled. The famously funny Tim Allen, who has been described as a “dark comedian”, was, of course, the star of Alphabet Network's hit comedy Home Improvement (which you can revisit with a Disney+ subscription) from 1991 to 1999. And although Allen added that he doesn't know how relevant his character from Home Improvement still is, he thinks a reboot focused on his children, Brad (Zachery Ty Bryan), Randy (Jonathan Taylor Thomas) and Mark (Taran) Noah Smith), could work. Richardson goes on to explain why he doesn't think it's worth returning to Home Improvement. It's not clear if any members of the Taylor clan or the larger Home Improvement crew will appear in a similar way in Shifting Gears. On multiple occasions, Tim Allen has scoffed that Home Improvement could be the next classic comedy to receive the revival treatment, suggesting that the other cast members would all agree.
The news of the actor's return to television networks comes after much talk about a revival of Home Improvement, a topic that has been talked about often during the two decades since Tim Allen hung up his tool belt.
