However, like much of the California coast, the area is prone to earthquakes.However, the city is well prepared and has building codes designed to withstand such situations. Several kilometers of wide sandy beaches welcome visitors to Half Moon Bay, which offers first-class opportunities for sunbathing, fishing, picnicking, relaxing, swimming and camping (on the state beach). These waters are generally clean and safe for swimming. However, to ensure public health and safety, San Mateo County Environmental Health Services, with the help of volunteer samplers, regularly test these waters for contamination. If problems are found, the public is notified and steps are taken to control the source of contamination.
Typical weather patterns in Half Moon Bay include fog in summer; clear, crisp days in fall and spring; and wet, windy winters. Schedule your class for a free excursion to the San Mateo coast and visit Half Moon Bay State Beach, Pescadero Marsh State Natural Preserve or Bean Hollow State Beach. Both violent and property crime rates in Half Moon Bay are lower than the average of similarly sized cities and considerably lower than the averages of larger cities. Half Moon Bay has a close-knit community, which plays a critical role in making the area feel safe and secure. The city of Half Moon Bay, in partnership with San Mateo County and the San Mateo County Port District, are working to improve the water quality of streams and beaches here on the coast. Based on the most recent data available at the time of writing this article, Half Moon Bay tends to have significantly lower crime rates compared to the national average. Overall, Half Moon Bay seems to be a relatively safe place to live and visit, considering its low crime rates and sense of community.
