When did california ban alcohol on beaches?

The San Diego City Council banned alcohol on the beach after the fight, temporarily. The ban enacted in 1991 was also suspended just 17 hours after it went into effect, when 45,000 signatures against the ordinance were submitted to the city clerk's office. However, even after the ban, there are some public areas where San Diegans can drink without fear of retaliation. That's why, with the 4th of July just around the corner, we've compiled a brief history of the ban and a map of the parks where you can drink a little during the day, without using paper bags.

It's illegal to drink on any public beach or in municipal and county parks in the Los Angeles metropolitan area, and unlike the opening a decade or two ago, officials no longer let a little tanning slip through. City officials approved the permanent ban on alcohol after a one-year trial ban on La Jolla Shores beach and adjacent Kellogg and North Park Community Park parks, which appeared to quash complaints about noise, drunkenness, drug use and gang activity.
